She loves putting them on... but only for a moment. She loves admiring herself in the mirror... but only until she decides she is "all done". More than anything, she LOVES cleaning them with her "spritzer spritzer spray". She loves cleaning her glasses so much that they spend more time getting scrubbed than they do on her face.
Thankfully, in our case, the glasses are not helping to straighten her eyes. Is it terrible that I was so happy to hear that?? She still should wear them regularly, but luckily, unlike the patch, not wearing them won't hurt her progress.
Miraflex Glasses vs. Wire Frame Glasses
We have two kinds of glasses for our daughter: Miraflex and Hello Kitty Brand wire framed glasses (from Walmart).
Below is the list of Pros and Cons as I see them:
Miraflex Glasses
Pros:
- Flexible and Unbreakable
- No screws or small parts that can fall off (nose pieces)
- Back strap to keep glasses in place
- Easy to take off (by the toddler)
- Hard to put on (by the toddler)
- Hard to put on with one hand (by an adult who is also holding a baby, for example)
- Glasses fall off if back strap is too loose
- Glasses are uncomfortable is strap is too tight
- It is hard to find the happy medium between too tight and too loose
- Ponytails/Pigtails are constantly getting messed up when toddler takes glasses off/tries to put glasses back on
- Because of the back strap, hair has to be arranged around the glasses every time they are removed and put back on (I know hair styles doesn't seem like it should be a consideration when choosing your child's glasses, but fixing hair over and over every day gets pretty frustrating..)
- Toddler can put them on herself
- No strap to make them too tight/too loose on her face
- In our case, they stay on very well
- Taking them off/Putting them on doesn't mess up hair :)
- Ours came with a 1-year warranty
- Breakable
- Hard to find frames small enough for a toddler's face
- Uncomfortable behind her ears
- Uncomfortable nose pad
- Easy to take off (Same as Miraflex)
Dinosaur Farm: A Patch Story that is NOT about the Patch
Avery is a kid who loves dinosaurs. So you can imagine her surprise when she discovers a real, live dinosaur egg on her grandparents' farm. Will it be a meat eating dinosaur or a plant eating dinosaur? Will it be a dinosaur at all? While things may not always be as they seem, Avery's adventure leads her to a new friend. AVERY'S EYE PATCH Avery wears glasses and a patch, but her story is not about her patch. In fact, the patch isn't even mentioned in the story. Tellibooks believe kids should be represented in the books they read, without feeling like their differences need to be explained.
When Avery's favorite celebrity singer, Blaize, comes to town, she gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet her hero. But when things don't go as planned, it will take kindness and understanding to make the show a success! AVERY'S GLASSES AND PATCH Avery wears glasses and a patch, but her story is about her, not her patch! At Tellibooks, we believe children should feel represented in the stories they read. That's why we make our stories about kids, not their differences.
